November is Diabetes Awareness month

November 4, 2016

Does anyone in your family have diabetes? Have you ever heard of diabetes? Diabetes is a condition where your body does not produce any or enough insulin. The body needs the insulin in order to break down sugar in the food we eat.

  • Prediabetes

A condition in which blood sugar is high, but not high enough to be type 2 diabetes.

  • Type 1 diabetes

A chronic condition in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin.

  • Type 2 diabetes

A chronic condition that affects the way the body processes blood sugar (glucose).

According to the American Diabetes Association, approximately 1.25 million American children and adults have type 1 diabetes with 8.1 million are undiagnosed. Diabetes is ranked 7 for leading cause of death. More people die from diabetes than AIDS and breast cancer combined. First step is to get screened and know your family history!
